 Jaguar E-type series 1, 4.200, spider (Open Two Seaters), guida a sinistra, prodotta il 7 Dicembre 1966 e venduta il 22 Dicembre dello stesso anno negli Stati Uniti (in Pennsylvania) dove è stata acquistata dal primo proprietario americano, nella colorazione blu scuro con interni blu e capote blu. 

Acquistata una decina d’anni fa dall’attuale proprietario, l'auto è stata sottoposta ad un restauro generale: i lamierati già sani sono stati trattati e riverniciati, mentre la meccanica ha ricevuto una revisione generale; gli interni gli, conservati, sono stati sostituiti in favore di un interno chiaro, che meglio si sposa con il colore scuro della carrozzeria.

Si tratta di uno dei primi esemplari costruiti con il motore 4.2 che conserva la classica coda con i fanalini oblunghi montati al di sopra dei paraurti; secondo il certificato Jaguar Heritage, l'auto risulta avere il motore del tipo corretto ma non matching. L'auto si presenta inoltre con certificazione ASI. Dal termine dei lavori l'auto ha percorso pochi chilometri.

Questo esemplare è il primo a montare sedili più confortevoli (rispetto ai primi sedili a guscio) che consentivano ai guidatori di trovare una migliore posizione di guida: la prima serire della E-type, cosiddetta flat floor, mal si adatta infatti alle persone alte.  

La prima serie con motore 4.2 costituisce, tra le E-type, la versione “migliore” grazie all’estetica pura ed elegante della prima serie, con notevoli migliorie nella meccanica.

Il motore di seconda generazione, ovvero il 6 cilindri in linea 4.200 con 265 cavalli in luogo del 3.800, permette di guadagnare coppia ed elasticità nell’uso quotidiano, sia in città che nei lunghi viaggi autostradali: tra le migliorie introdotte vi era anche il cambio Jaguar a 4 rapporti tutti sincronizzati in luogo del cambio “Moss” più duro e antiquato per un’auto del genere; l’impianto frenante è sempre costituito dai quattro freni a disco Dunlop, affiancati nel retrotreno al differenziale autobloccante.

La versione aperta dell'auto più bella del mondo secondo Enzo Ferrari, la OTS, con la sua pulizia nelle forme conserva l'eleganza tipica della E-type che si ritrova anche nella coupé: tuttavia la spider è più fruibile e piacevole, soprattutto nella stagione estiva dove gran parte del calore prodotto dal vano motore prospiciente all'abitacolo viene dissipato.

 Jaguar E-type series 1, 4.200 spider (Open Two Seaters), left hand drive, produced on 7 December 1966 and sold on 22 December of the same year in the United States (Pennsylvania) where it was bought by the first American owner, in the dark blue color with blue interior and blue soft top.

Purchased about ten years ago by the current owner, the car has undergone a general restoration: the body was generally good and has been treated and repainted, while the mechanics have received a general overhaul; the preserved interiors have been replaced in favor of a sand interior, which matches better with the dark color of the bodywork.

It is one of the first examples built with the 4.2 engine which retains the classic tail with long tail lights mounted above the bumpers; according to the Jaguar Heritage certificate, the car appears to have the correct engine type but not matching. The car also comes with ASI certification. Since the end of the restoration the car was used just for short runs.

This series is the first to mount more comfortable seats (compared to the first bucket seats) that allowed drivers to find a better driving position: the first series of the E-type, the so-called flat floor, does not adapt well to tall drivers.

The first series with 4.2 engine constitutes, among the E-types, the "best" version thanks to the pure and elegant aesthetics of the first series, with significant improvements in mechanics.

The second generation engine, 6-cylinder in-line 4,200 with 265 horsepower instead of the 3,800, allows you to gain torque and elasticity in everyday use, both in the city and on long motorway journeys: among the improvements introduced there was also the gearbox. 4-speed Jaguar all synchronized instead of the old and hard “Moss” gearbox for this car; the braking system is always made of four Dunlop disc brakes, with the limited-slip differential.

The open version of the most beautiful car in the world according to what Enzo Ferrari used to say, the OTS, with its simple shape retains the typical elegance of the E-type that is also found in the coupé: however the spider is more usable and pleasant, especially in the summer season where much of the heat produced by the engine bay facing the driver and the passenger is well dissipated.
