 Questa Jaguar 3.4 “Mark 1” è stata costruita il 20 Febbraio 1958 e consegnata pochi giorni dopo all’importatore per la Svizzera Claparede (Ginevra), nel suo colore grigio perla con interni blu scuro, cambio manuale con overdrive e quattro freni a disco. L’allestimento per le auto esportate fuori dall’Inghilterra era lo “special” che includeva il contagiri, il riscaldamento, il lava parabrezza,i fendinebbia e l’accendisigari.

 

Dopo una vita passata tra la Svizzera - in cui veniva seguita dallo specialista Aldo Vinzio - e la Francia (importata nel 1994), l’auto è stata acquistata nel 2009 dall’attuale proprietario italiano.

 

 Seppur in discrete condizioni generali, l’auto è stata sottoposta ad un restauro completo comprensivo di sostituzione dei fondi, dei fascioni sottoporta, riverniciatura totale, sostituzione dell’intero impianto elettrico e di illuminazione, restauro degli strumenti, restauro completo dei legni di noce dell’abitacolo presso specialista in Inghilterra, revisione generale del motore, dei carburatori e della meccanica in generale. L’interno è stato interamente rifatto dalla tappezzeria Favalli (Milano) in pelle nera totale, pannelli porta inclusi. I cerchi sono stati costituiti con un set nuovo di colore nero – previsto all’epoca e visibile soprattutto nelle foto di Mark 1 impegnate in gara, su cui sono stati montati pneumatici corretti per l’epoca.

 

Dal termine del restauro l’auto non è stata immatricolata ed è solo stata movimentata attorno al garage del proprietario con targa prova. 

 

L’auto viene consegnata in ordine, con documento di vendita, targhe e libretto precedente francese, pronta per la reimmatricolazione.

 

 

Note storiche sul modello:

La monoscocca, le linee più dinamiche, le sospensioni anteriori indipendenti con barra antirollio, il retrotreno derivato dalla D-type segnarono una linea di demarcazione con le berline prodotte fino a quel momento dalla casa di Coventry. Era il 1955 ed il modello rimase sul mercato fino al 1959.

 

A fianco del mansueto 2.4 litri, il poderoso 3.4 litri capace di 210 cavalli rendeva l’elegante berlina un’arma vincente per le competizioni, sia su strada che in pista: tra i piloti famosi che corsero con la Mark 1, ricordiamo Roy Salvadori  Mike Hawthorn e Stirling Moss.

Nel 1957 a seguito dell’esperienza nelle gare, per migliorare le prestazioni sportive della Mk1 vennero introdotti i freni a disco Dunlop sulle quattro ruote: un’assoluta novità per quell’epoca su una berlina di normale produzione.

 This Jaguar 3.4 “Mark 1” was built on 20 February 1958 and delivered a few days later to the Swiss importer Claparede (Geneva), in Pearl gray with dark blue interior, manual gearbox with overdrive and four disc brakes. The equipment for export cars was the "Special" which included the rev counter, heating, windscreen washer, fog lights and cigarette lighter.

 

After a life spent between Switzerland - where it was maintained by the specialist Aldo Vinzio - and France (imported in 1994), the car was purchased in 2009 by the current Italian owner.

 

  Although in fair general condition, the car underwent a complete restoration including replacement of the floorpans and the rocker panels, total repainting, replacement of the entire electrical and lighting system, restoration of the gauges, complete restoration of the walnut wood of the cockpit by a specialist in England, general overhaul of the engine, carburettors and mechanics in general. The interior was entirely redone by Favalli (Milan) upholstery in black full leather, door panels included. The rims were changed with a new set of black - expected at the time and visible above all in the photos of the Mark 1 engaged in the race - with period-correct tires.

Since the end of the restoration, the car has not been registered and has only been driven around the owner's garage with a garage plate.

 

The car is delivered in running condition, with bill of sale, previous French title and plates, ready for re-registration.

 

 

Historical notes:

The monocoque, the modern and dynamic shape, the independent front suspension with anti-roll bar, the rear axle derived from the D-type marked a dividing line with the sedans produced up to that point by the Coventry factory. It was 1955 and the car remained on the market up to 1959.

 

Alongside the tame 2.4 liters, the powerful 3.4 liters capable of 210 horsepower made the elegant sedan a winning weapon for races, both on the road and on the track: among the famous drivers who raced with the Mark 1, we remember Roy Salvadori Mike Hawthorn and Stirling Moss.

In 1957, following the experience in racing, Dunlop disc brakes were introduced on the four wheels to improve the sporting performance of the Mk1: an absolute novelty for that era on a normal production sedan.
